There's plenty of Edward G. Robinson spoofs, I like them all, Larceny Inc, A Slight Case of Murder, The Little Giant and my favorite the Whole Town's Talking. Everyone talks so fast you can hardly keep up with them. Plus Robinson plays a double role: a milquetoast and a gangster. Jean Arthur is at her best and there are a lot of familiar character actors in it. Take a peak: The Thin Man movies were so popular back when, it's no wonder in the 30s, there were so many married couples sleuthing. Nothing is good as the original, but Fast and Loose with Robert Montgomery and Rosiland Russell comes close. Rare Book dealers abounded in the 30s, so this movie is about a rare books. Montgomery and Russell work well together and it's fun married couples on film act "real". I recommend that you watch Montgomery and Russell in Night Must Fall first. It's not a comedy, it's a better film, and then watch Fast and Loose... You'll have two new favorites. TRAILER! 2 words: Peggy Mount. That's right more good British film! One the funniest British actresses is Peggy Mount. Her voice, her mannerisms is just.. fabulous! Case in point, British classic comedy, Ladies Who Do! Get yourself a laugh! I've been on a roll, finding good British films! One thing I like about classic British film is they don't mind making films with people of a certain age. My find is Dangerous Afternoon. Proof that you don't need youth to make a great film. It's a fun little movie about women in a retirement home. I give this one 4 Stars! It's a good one for British classic comedy fans! |
